Located in the southwestern frontier of China, facing Southeast and South Asia, Yunnan is connected to Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, and has enjoyed a friendly relationship in trade with Southeast Asia since ancient times. From the end of 1990’s, relying on the geographical advantages, we actively introduce and help the private enterprises of Yunnan to participate in GMS cooperation and development. Through more than 10 years of efforts, we have got initial results. Nowadays, we establish friendly relationship with Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Thai Chamber of Commerce, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the UNESCAP, ADB, and Chambers of Commerce in ASEAN countries. Moreover, in 2000, we joined the GMS Business Forum (GMS-BF) which was initiated by UNESCAP and ADB, and became the core group member of it. In 2000, we promote to set up the Joint Economic Quadrangle Committee, which includes chambers of commerce of China (Yunnan Province), Myanmar, Laos and Thailand (the 9-10th Region). Recently, relying on the above-mentioned networks and cooperation mechanism, we actively cooperate with the chambers of commerce in GMS region, and hold a serial of fruitful economy and trade activities, thus provide platforms for the private enterprises of Yunnan to participate in GMS cooperation and development.
In 16-20 December, 2007, in cooperation with the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), and GMS Business Forum (GMS-BF), Yunnan Provincial Chamber of Commerce of China successfully held a four-day Training Course on “GMS Human Resource Development and Cooperation” in Kunming, P. R. China. 43 people attend the course, including 30 foreign participants from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. |
